I have a question for you guys. I work for a certain company and recently was offered a project for $7 a page. This is normally their going rate for projects, no matter what level usually. I realized by some mistake of theirs apparently, they actually charged the client almost $400 more than I will be paid. Do you all consider that a scam? I am a little angry about it and wondering if I should even give this company my time. The entire time I write that paper I am going to be thinking about the fact someone in some room is making $400 for something when I am the one doing the majority of the work? Am I wrong to feel this way?

most companies will leave you 40-50% of the take, which is fair (?). all are going to take the lion's share. $7 a page is about average.
it's hard to tell from your example, because you don't list the order's page count.
being a writer in this industry often means contracting with middlemen. they do the marketing, drum up the business, and provide the customer service-- personally, I am willing to give them about half the revenue for this, because if I had to deal with some of these customers personally, you would see me on the evening news, on top of a clock-tower somewhere.

The paper is 30 pages long and on a master's level, thus making it 7 a page to which they charged the customer almost $21 a page. I am being paid 33% for master's level thesis work.

In order to hire and maintain the best, native Enlish-speaking professionals in the US and UK, legitimate/honest/forthright companies pay writers at least 50% of the total amount that customers pay.

Legitimate essay companies will pay writers a third to a half of what the client pays them - NOT 50% which would put many companies out of business.

it's hard to make blanket statements about pay, because there are lots of variables... how tough the material is, when the deadline is, etc.
if you have 2 weeks to do something, $7/page might be OK.
if you have 2 days, you might double that.

Payment of $7 for a Master's essay is typical of the sums paid by crap essays sites for writers who cannot write well or are not graduates.
All legitimate and high quality sites will pay more than that - but the work MUST be original and of good quality. Also, you must be a graduate, and write good English (not WB then).
The sites that pay per page should be avoided anyway; you will be paid per word by all legitmate sites.
For 500 words (two pages) 2.1 you should be paid £15+ ($25+) and more if you have a short time to do the essay - that's $12.50 per page. Master's level should pay more than that, so at least £20 ($30) per 500 words or $15 a page. Exchange rates vary, of course.
The best writers will go to the highest paying sites, leaving the dregs with the low paying cheapo sites.
Quality costs. Ask yourself: can you REALLY write excellent 2.1 work? Or are you just an EFL student who can write at basic level - if so, then you are lucky to get $7 a page.
If you pay peanuts you get monkeys: WritersBeware, WRT (the moron) and Pheelyks spring to mind.
